Position Summary:

Assist members in designing, training, and maintaining a personalized exercise program. Ensure all policies are followed and members are monitored while in the Fitness Center. The Personal Trainer will design and implement safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness programs that will meet the needs of each member.

Essential Functions:


  1. Promotes and incorporates the YMCA five core values into all activities.
  2. Plans and develops individual fitness programs.
  3. Demonstrates proper operation and correct use of fitness equipment; assists with exercise techniques, and helps develop member's knowledge of physiology and exercise.
  4. Maintains regular contact with members to regarding effectiveness and progression of their fitness program.
  5. Monitors fitness floor/room to ensure safe use of all equipment; responds to and reports, accidents and incidents.
  6. Monitors the condition of the exercise equipment, including reporting any necessary repairs.
  7. Keeps the weight room neat and orderly, including cleaning the fitness equipment.
  8. Keeps accurate and confidential member records including health and wellness assessments, personal information, fitness routines and training schedules.
  9. Participates with fitness staff to develop quality programs to meet members' needs.
  10. Responds to members concerns.
  11. Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  12. Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
  13. Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.
  14. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum age of 21.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. National Personal Training certification.
  4. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
  5. Previous experience working as a Personal Trainer preferred.
  6. Focus on client satisfaction.
  7. Provide outstanding customer service.
  8. Deliver excellent results.
  9. Previous experience with diverse populations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to resolve routine problems.

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to be sensitive and alter to the needs, feelings, and safety of others.
