ULAR (University Laboratory Animal Resources) is an AAALACi-accredited animal care program that supports the University of California Irvine's research and teaching missions by providing high quality, humane care for vertebrate laboratory animals, in accordance with State and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to the use of animals in research and teaching. Your Role on the Team Evaluates and treats laboratory animals in support of UC Irvine's research and teaching missions and in accordance with applicable animal welfare regulations and accreditation standards. Independently performs the full range of Clinical Veterinarian duties for laboratory animals at UC Irvine. May receive supervision or guidance for difficult or complex cases. Ensures activities adhere to animal use protocols. Provides advice and assessment to UC Irvine's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Performs anesthesia and surgical procedures, including pre-operative and postoperative care. Advises and trains research personnel on the choice and use of anesthetics, analgesics, sedatives, tranquilizers, other medications, aseptic technique, surgical procedures, post-operative care, animal handling, animal husbandry, and other procedures related to animal research. Responds to routine and emergency requests for veterinary care, including on-call duty on nights, weekends, and holidays. What It Takes to be Successful Required:
