Medication History Technician Supervisor

Summary:

Reports to Pharmacy Manager. Under the supervision of a Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the system-wide progressive pharmacy-managed medication reconciliation practice model and activities and functions of Medication History Program (MHP) technician team including Medication History Technicians Medication History Technician Specialists Medication History Technician Specialist Remote and Medication History Technician Group Leaders. Assists with the system-wide expansion of the MHP. Manages pharmacy technician schedules for the MHP to ensure they are equitable and support operational needs. Participates in recruitment activities holds pharmacy technicians on the MHP team accountable for performance and professionalism. Prepares and issues formal performance appraisals. Collaborates with pharmacy supervisors and managers to develop goals for the MHP. Monitors and is responsible for MHP continuous quality assessment and improvement activities.

Responsibilities:

Supervises the work of MHP technicians technician specialists technician specialists remote and technician group leaders hereafter referred to as MHP technicians.

Assists with the creation of job roles and responsibilities develops assignments assigns work creates and maintains work schedules and designs training plans. Provides functional guidance to MHP technicians. Prepares and issues annual performance appraisals.

Responsible for strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines. Supervises day to day MHP activities to ensure compliance with established policies procedures and relevant labor contracts.

Participates in the recruitment retention performance enhancement and competency assessment of MHP technicians ensures compliance to existing policies procedures and relevant labor contracts. Provides actionable feedback to employees to promote effective teamwork and satisfaction in the workplace in consultation with Pharmacy Supervisor or Manager.

Develops standards and tools to establish and to improve the competency of MHP technicians including orientation of new employees in-service training and demonstrable competencies.

Communicates effectively with MHP technicians to facilitate the flow of operations. Provides timely and accurate communication both written and verbal as appropriate regarding operational changes and continuous quality improvement activities including goals and objectives as they relate to the pharmacy-managed medication reconciliation practice model.

Mentors and coaches MHP technicians to assist them in defining and realizing their personal professional goals.

Reviews and analyzes operations recommends and implements changes to increase efficiency and level of pharmacy services and to improve quality safety regulatory and/or financial outcomes.

Participates in system-wide continuous quality assessment and performance improvement activities and medication safety initiatives Supervises the quality assessment process as it relates to medication reconciliation to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Participates in various committees task forces and performance improvement teams as assigned.

Performs duties of other pharmacy technician job categories as needed.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Other information:

QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:

High school graduate or equivalent required. Completion of one to two years of college preferred.

Maintains current unrestricted Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician licensure.

Holds and maintains current National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).

QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:

Two to three years of experience as a technician group leader or technician specialist preferably gained at a Brown University Health affiliate or five years of progressively more responsible technician experience preferably gained at a Brown University Health affiliate.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.

Possesses basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires extended periods of work time spent standing and walking.

Requires the visual and manual dexterity to operate a computer.

Occasional travel between facilities or sites may be required.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Performs independently within department policies and practices.

Refers specific complex problems to the Pharmacy Manager where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.

SUPERVISION:

Direct supervision of up to 10 FTEs.

Indirect supervision of up to 35 FTEs.
