The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solution providers-striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them. The University of California, Irvine Police Department, provides contemporary law enforcement services including patrol, traffic, investigations, community engagement, crime prevention and suppression, and security services to a daily population of more than 50,000 people.
The department employs about 50 sworn officers, 56 professional staff, and 40 students who provide public safety services at both the Irvine campus and the Medical Center, located in the City of Orange, California. Working in partnership with the UCI community, we strive to provide services based on integrity, respect, transparency, fairness, and teamwork.

The Public Safety Responder provides for the general safety and security of the UC Irvine and UC Irvine Health population, physical property, and assets as prescribed by state law, regulatory compliance, and departmental procedures and guidelines.

Under the direction of UC Irvine Police Department, the Public Safety Responder assists in the monitoring, observation, and reporting of public safety conditions. The essential functions listed below are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned to this position, nor does it restrict the duties which may be assigned to this position if such duties reasonably relate to the position.

This position may be required to exercise reasonable use of force pursuant to received training to support a safe campus environment.


Your Role on the Team

  • Prior hospital security experience. Preferred
  • The ability to read, write, and speak proper English. Required
  • Successfully complete a State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training 832 PC Arrest course within initial six months of employment and maintain certification throughout employment. Required
  • Must successfully complete annual Taser certification. Required
  • Successfully complete the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety advanced certification within initial six months of employment and maintain certification throughout employment. Required
  • Ability to work variable shifts, including: evenings; nights; weekends; and holidays Required
  • Experience working in a University environment. Preferred
  • Must maintain eligibility pursuant to state and federal regulations to carry a Taser throughout employment. Required
  • Must be able to conduct sustained foot patrols and/or extended stationary (standing/sitting) post assignments. Required
  • Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills. Required
  • Experience with Taser and use of force principles Preferred
  • Bilingual Preferred
  • As a condition of employment, must successfully complete an extensive background investigation. Required
  • Required to successfully complete an FBI fingerprinting process and maintain the successful completion of an FBI fingerprinting process throughout employment. Required

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $22.91- $30.22 (Hourly).

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Current State of California Driver's License
  • Current State of California Guard Card issued by the Bureau of Security Investigative Services (BSIS) prior to hire.

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience prior hospital security experience.
