Founded in 1965, UC Irvine is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is ranked among the nation's top 10 public universities by U.S. News & World Report. The campus has produced five Nobel laureates and is known for its academic achievement, premier research, innovation and anteater mascot. It's located in one of the world's safest and most economically vibrant communities and is Orange County's second-largest employer, contributing $7 billion annually to the local economy and $8 billion statewide. Within the UCI Charlie Dunlop BioSci foundational theme of MIND | BODY | WORLD, the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) focuses on the WORLD and how the MIND and BODY are embedded in this context. Our department studies the molecular basis of how organisms adapt to the natural world over evolutionary time, and how the resultant biological diversity in organismal function affects present-day ecological processes. Accordingly, faculty in EEB study questions pertinent at a variety of levels of biological organization, from molecular aspects of evolution to organismal physiology and the ecology of terrestrial, freshwater and ocean ecosystems. Your Role on the Team Works in the lab focused on the genetics of complex traits. We work with bacteria, yeast, Drosophila, and mice.
