Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant for the School of Arts and Sciences ( SAS) - Abraira Lab. This position is dedicated to providing basic level laboratory and technical support, with a specific emphasis on the study of Low-Threshold Mechanoreceptors ( LTMR) subtypes and their roles in innocuous touch circuitry in the mouse spinal cord.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Encompasses a range of duties, primarily focused on research and experimentation in the field of somatosensation using mouse genetics.
  • Conducts laboratory experiments and developing research protocols to gain rigorous and innovative research outcomes.
  • Handles mouse behavior analysis to gain insights into the impact of genetic variations on somatosensory processing and related behaviors. This task is achieved through designing and conducting mouse behavioral experiments and interpreting the resulting data.
  • Entails mouse colony management, ensuring the availability of specific genetic strains of mice for research, which includes managing, breeding, and genotyping mouse colonies.
  • Enhances the depth and breadth of research through interdisciplinary efforts and sharing findings with both internal and external research teams.
  • Involves publication and dissemination activities, including writing and contributing to peer-reviewed publications and presenting findings at scientific forums and conferences.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
