Position Summary

The function of the Vocational Specialist is to provide education and employment services to consumers. The Vocational Specialist's job responsibilities include teaching job readiness skills, facilitating employment group, on the job support, building connections with employers, and linking consumers to educational resources. A commitment to the RHD values should be demonstrated as job duties are performed.

Essential Duties and Functions

Direct Support

  • Determine appropriate vocational interventions for consumers.
  • Assists consumers in connecting with all available and appropriate federal, state and local vocational assistance support programs.
  • Provides support and skills training in development and attainment of a participants' vocational goal.
  • Provide treatment and crisis intervention through participation in program on-call rotation
  • May be required to provide transportation for consumers supported by the program on an as-needed basis

Administrative

  • Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with program regulation procedures
  • Develop and implement person centered treatment plans in collaboration with team and consumers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human services or related field.
  • 2 years post grad mental health/developmental disabilities/substance abuse experience with population served.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with consumers and other staff
  • Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Valid Driver's license required

Working conditions

This is a community-based position. Some work in a typical office environment with frequent local travel and in-person, face-to-face visits with consumers in their homes or other community locations.

  • Medium: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
