This job is to be responsible for assisting patients with general mobility tasks as assigned by clinical staff. The mobility technician assists patients in performing mobility tasks, exercises and functional activities as assigned by clinical staff.

Education

Preferred - High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Required - None.

Preferred - 1 year of Patient Care Assistant/Nursing Assistant work experience in acute care hospital, long-term acute care hospital, or equivalent.

6 months of therapy experience, e.g. PT/OT Rehab Technician.

Nursing student who has completed first clinical rotation. Pursuit of professional medical licensure in any field applicable to an acute care setting.

Certifications

Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to function as a team member, responding willingly and positively to colleagues' needs for assistance and partnership in patient motility.

  • Ability to promote a positive work environment with the intraprofessional care team.

  • Ability to problem solve, assists other staff, transporters, and patient care technicians with mobility, while managing several ongoing priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

  • Demonstrate complete understanding of Progressive Mobility Protocol (PMP) as well as documenting in EPIC.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Ability to follow infection control protocols, safety protocols, obtaining vital signs, documenting in the medical record, inspecting, and maintaining equipment.

Job Duties

  • Function as a team member and respond to colleagues' needs for assistance with patient mobility. Work collaboratively with nursing staff, therapy, and physicians to aid patients with mobilization needs.

  • Assist with delegated treatment plan activities that include patient mobility, transporting patients, assisting patients in and out of bed, lifts, and ambulation.

  • Gather patient information prior to treatment sessions according to the Progressive Mobility Protocol (PMP) and document in EPIC.

  • Assist with equipment inspection, maintenance, and storage, cleaning/disinfection, and supply procurement.

  • Collaborate and communicate with the interprofessional team regarding patients' response to delegated activities. Maintain accurate and complete documentation of patient care procedures performed.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and provide recommendations impacting quality and safety targets on the unit-based scorecard, through peer-to-peer accountability, reporting near misses, and collaborating with the interprofessional team. Contribute to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety.

  • Assist in gathering and maintaining data for quality improvement projects, inventory of supplies in the department, and prioritize daily tasks.
