The Position

Incumbent works under the direction of the Clerk of the District Court, Chief Deputy or designee, managing, supervising and monitoring the functions and work activities of an assigned unit in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise, direct and monitor assigned clerical staff.
  • Evaluate staff performance ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform management administrative functions (e.g. employee selection, orientation, training, scheduling, performance appraisals, recommend personnel actions).
  • Monitor changes in court requirements, submit proposed changes to the Clerk of the District Court or Chief Deputy for review/approval, and implement revisions.
  • Provide assistance in researching and locating information, answering questions and resolving concerns.
  • Communicate staff and management fostering a supportive and positive work environment.
  • Adhere to the assigned department's (Juvenile Court, Domestic, Accounting, Board of Mental Health, Case Processing, Protection Orders, and File Department) protocols and processes.
  • Utilize and follow standard operating procedures in assigned department.
  • Prepare, review and process written and statistical reports.
  • Organize, analyze and interpret data and provide recommendations.
  • Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.*
  • Five (5) years of clerical experience required.
  • Two years of experience using MSOffice preferred.
  • Notary Public or eligibility to obtain a Notary Public in the State of Nebraska preferred.
  • Experience in supervising, coordinating or directing the work of others preferred.
  • Experience utilizing the Clerk of the District Court specialized software preferred.
  • Completion of a post-offer drug screen required.
  • *Equivalent education beyond requirements may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two (2) years of the work experience requirement.

  • Work is performed in an office setting during standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. overtime and call-ins). Noise level is usually moderate. Work may be stressful when dealing with multiple/changing priorities, time constraints, limited resources, and uncooperative/irate individuals.
  • Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting, standing, frequent walking, reaching and carrying, and occasional climbing, balancing, bending and kneeling. Incumbents must have the ability to frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds in a joint lift.
  • Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbents must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
