Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Psychiatry responsibilities include providing consultation/liaison services to hospital inpatients evaluating need for and providing psychotherapy for individual group or family and performs psychiatric evaluations. Develops treatment plans for patients including medication evaluations. Plans develops and implements in-service education for nursing personnel as well as interns and residents. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patients.

Responsibilities:

Provides psychiatric evaluations for hospital inpatients including diagnosis recommendations for further treatment and/or medication management.
Provides follow up with feedback to attending psychiatrists concerning responses to and side effects developed from psychotropic medications prescribed.
Evaluates and arranges for transfer of patient*s to psychiatric facilities as needed. Interfaces with attending physicians and other health care providers in coordination of care of hospital inpatients. Evaluates need and provides psychotherapy including individual group and/or family. Regularly communicates with other members of the Department of Psychiatry.
Plans develops and implements in-service education programs for other Hospital Departments as requested.
Assists in the education of trainees assigned to gero-psychiatric services * medical and psychiatric residents medical students and nursing students.
Assists in the development of evaluation and research programs as they develop.
Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.
Performs other related duties as required.

Other information:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursingorlicensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
MSN required.
