Human Resources Generalist Opportunity

The HR Generalist is a key member of the Northstar Behavioral Health Team who, under the administrative direction of the HR Director, manages the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource office. The HR Generalist manages the administration of the human resources policies, procedures and programs. The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, recruiting, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, and employment.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates the recruitment process: Utilizes applicant-tracking system to post and advertise open positions; monitors and reviews applications, evaluates applicant skills and qualifications for employment, and makes recommendations to Supervisors; interviews applicants and schedules interviews for Supervisors; ensures job vacancies are accurate.
  • Assists the HR Director with employee recruitment initiatives, including job fair attendance.
  • Coordinates the employee onboarding process: Makes offer for employment; processes hire in applicant-tracking system; completes, analyzes, and tracks pre-employment requirements; ensures new hire meets employment requirements, enters new hire data into HRIS, and coordinates orientation training.
  • Coordinates the employee separation process.
  • Processes applications for volunteers, interns, and student nurses; ensures regulatory requirements are completed prior to patient access.
  • Assists Supervisors with employee relations counselings, performance improvement measures, and ensures consistent documentation of all employee corrective actions.
  • Enters information into HRIS to track training, education, and competencies and to view and analyze employee information; runs reports.
  • Completes salary survey questionnaires, employment verification requests, and other information requests submitted to the HR department.
  • Explains benefits to employees; serves as liaison between employees and the Corporate Benefits Department.
  • Monitors employee training and competency requirements; works with Supervisors to ensure mandatory training and competencies are completed.
  • Proficient knowledge of State and Federal employment law; advises employees and Leaders on FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and other employment law matters.
  • Maintains employee personnel files in compliance with State and Federal law, as well as company policy. Provides copies of employee personnel files as requested and in compliance with State and Federal law, as well as company policy. Conducts routine audits of employee personnel files to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Tracks and coordinates employee leave of absence program and worker's compensation program.
  • Ensures compliance with all Human Resources related regulatory requirements and reporting.
  • Coordinates and plans employee recognition activities and programs, including annual employee events.
  • Maintains compliance with Federal, State, and regulatory agency's regulations concerning employment and Facility participation eligibility; assists the HR Director with CMS, TJC, DHHS, and other regulatory audits of employee personnel files.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of human resource experience and high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Business, or related field highly preferred. Education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis to meet the minimum experience qualification.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR certification also highly preferred.
  • Personal vehicle with a valid State of Alaska driver's license is required.
