Principal Engineer

Avion Solutions Inc., an employee-owned company, seeks candidates for a Principal Engineer to support Systems Readiness Directorate (SRD). This position is based in Huntsville, AL.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

• Prepare and coordinate Airworthiness Releases (AWR) for fielding new equipment on fleet aircraft.
• Prepare and coordinate Airworthiness Impact Statements (AWIS) for fielded aircraft risks.
• Prepare Airworthiness Qualification Plans (AQP).
• Provide Support to the Project Management (PM) System Safety Working Group (SSWG).
• Provide support for the issuance of Safety of Flight (SOF) Messages, Aviation Safety Action Messages (ASAM), and Aviation Maintenance Action Messages (AMAM) for fleet aircraft.
• Review Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and associated documents.
• Evaluate test reports and fleet aircraft data supporting fleet aircraft component life extension.
• Evaluate Maintenance Engineering Calls (MECs).
• Analyze field-generated DA Form 2028 recommended changes to field manuals.
• Review Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDRs) and the associated investigative teardown analysis reports.
• Evaluate teardown analysis findings for potential risks to fielded aircraft and prepare an investigation report.
• Provide support to Cargo PM as required for changes to Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRS) and inspection/repair criteria.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or other related areas.
• 10 or more years' experience with Airworthiness Requirements either military or commercial.
• Experience with and knowledge of aircraft drive and rotor systems.
• Experience in communicating with non-engineering personnel and explaining technical issues in a clear, understandable manner.
• Experience in preparing and presenting information briefings to SRD and PM customers.
• Must be a US Citizen and have/able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
• Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time. US travel only.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with the CH/MH-47 aircraft.
• Experience with interpreting/ assessing SRD Airworthiness requirements.
• Experience with addressing fielded aircraft issues including the issuance of AWRs, SOF, ASAM, and AMAM messages.
• Experience with AWIS development.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
