POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Position Overview:

The Drafter/CAD Operator is responsible for ensuring the company maintains an updated library of guiding documents that facilitate maintenance, construction, and utility jobs.

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):



  • Maintains official maps, utility maps, topographic maps, grid marker systems, graphical real property facility records, Geographic Information System (GIS) data, CAD products, and technical reference materials.
  • Processes updates as changes occur.
  • Conducts complete inventory of the library catalog to include digital images, hardcopy as-builts, multi-media briefings, photographs, and videos.
  • Updates and catalogs new media to reflect modifications or deletions of facility structures or land plots from mapping systems.
  • Updates meter maps based on changes identified by UICAPs and repair and replacement work.
  • Updates all new system components and/or deactivated system components in the as-built drawing library's permanent record set.
  • Documents requests within a request log that identifies the name and department of requester.
  • Maintains project files throughout the life of the project and processes updates as changes occur.
  • Tracks the removal of original drawings through the use of a logbook.
  • Coordinates with government and construction agencies to revise drawings based on changes through special projects.
  • Obtains approval of as-built drawings
  • Draws base and elevation views, sections, and details of new bridges or other structures, revising complete sets of roadway drawings for highway construction projects, or preparing block maps, indicating water and sewage line locations.
  • Performs engineering drafting, electronic record creation and maintenance, and hard copy file creation and maintenance to assure PWD engineering records accurately indicate the inventory and condition of facilities.
  • Provides drafting and plotting services to include, but not necessarily limited to, digital scanning (jpeg), electronic filing, updating drawings, reproduction of drawings, schematics, maps, slides, charts and graphs.
  • Deciphers construction plans, wiring diagrams and schematic drawings.
  • Convert specifications of products from other drafters or manufacturers into thorough CAD drawings that conform to the drafting standards & drawing management procedures as outlined
  • Reviews dimensions, spelling, call outs, scaling and the overall completeness of the drawing(s).
  • Help prepare individual and complete sets of drawings using CAD/CAE or similar software.
  • Work from sketches, computer models, and verbal information supplied by an engineer, architect, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments.
  • Frequently archives, catalogs, and produces engineering related documents, as required.
  • Digitize and catalog hard copy records.
  • Build and maintain document backup system.


Pay rate: $29.91 per hour

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Must be fluent in English.

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, federal and state safety and environmental regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers/employees and in a classroom or meeting environment


  • Ability to apply mathematical principles

    • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
    • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry


  • Able to interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Suite
  • Proficient knowledge of MAXIMO
  • Must be self-motivated to complete tasks with little to no supervision
