THE POSITION

Take you administrative career up a notch! Join the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) as a Legal Assistant 1. In this role, you will perform a full range of legal clerical support duties handling sensitive and confidential records consistent with Department regulations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Legal Assistant 1, you will receive subpoena and Right-to-Know requests for Department personnel and records relative to PSP matters. You will log all subpoenas, monitor deadlines, and retrieve the appropriate investigative report from the Investigative Records Section. Other duties include logging, assigning, and monitoring all Right-to-Know requests. You must clearly understand pertinent laws governing Right-to-Know and subpoena issuance to handle sensitive and confidential records.

The legal clerical support duties include but are not limited to:

  • answering the telephone
  • typing correspondence
  • maintaining and updating filing system
  • scanning, photocopying, and faxing for the unit
  • Bates Numbering records and photographs
  • processing mail

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be willing to work onsite full-time. Teleworking is not an option as part of this position's work schedule.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirement:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
  • You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
