Job Summary

The Department of English is seeking a Student Research Intern for the Spring 2025 semester. The Student Research Intern will assist the Professor on the project Critical AI Literacy Through the Lens of Multimodal Composing: How Podcast Creation Shapes Students Understanding of AI Bias. This project will explore the following questions: In what ways do students critically engage with linguistic and cultural biases embedded in AI tools during the podcasting process? and How does multimodal composing facilitate deeper reflection on AI's impact compared to traditional writing assignments? Key data sources will include teaching artifacts such as instructional materials and assignment prompts, students podcast scripts, reflective writings, discussion posts, and final podcast projects. Additionally, semi-structured interviews will be conducted with selected students to gain deeper insights into their personal experiences and reflections on AI-generated content and multimodal composing.

  • Scholarly reading and annotation
  • Research interview techniques
  • Other related duties may be assigned

This experience will not only enhance their academic skillset but also prepare them for future research or professional opportunities by building transferable skills in critical thinking, digital literacy, collaboration, and effective communication.

Minimum Qualifications

Open to Humanities majors only (Art, Art History, English, History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Modern Languages, etc.)

  • Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally, and in writing.
  • Possess a high sense of responsibility.
  • Possess a high degree of organizational and time-management skills.
  • Posses knowledge of Mailchimp.
  • Skilled in content creation for social media including Instagram, Instagram Reels, and others.
  • Detail oriented with great organization skills/Ability to work accurately with detailed information.
  • Conduct quality control of digital assets.
  • Support metadata efforts and content of program records and archives.
  • Confidentiality -Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information
  • A passion for education.

Applicants must be currently enrolled at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student.

During the Summer semester, students need only to remain enrolled, but cannot graduate.

Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.

Work Schedule

  • Flexible
  • One semester only
  • 10 - 12 hours a week (not to exceed 144 hours per semester).
Advertised Salary

$18.00 per hour
