Description

The NISC IV group at Leidos is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Oklahoma City, OK. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your expertise in mechanical engineering while supporting the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) server group and contributing to critical systems supporting national security.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Apply professional mechanical engineering principles to the design, integration, and implementation of systems related to electrical power, fiber optics, copper wire and cable, and National Airspace Systems (NAS) test equipment.
  • Utilize advanced engineering knowledge to develop plans, techniques, and solutions that improve programs and policies.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate solutions to complex, diverse problems.
  • Design and integrate systems, conduct research, and support project/program management activities.
  • Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation in support of customer needs.
  • Provide engineering advisory services to management and supervisors, applying scientific methods such as time and motion studies, work sampling, and queuing theory to optimize resource allocation.
  • Analyze workload factors, collect and interpret historical data, and identify key components in the production process of critical end products and services.
  • Conduct evaluations of organizational structures, work conditions, and processes to align staffing needs with workload requirements.
  • Lead project management efforts, including developing project charters, requirements analysis, and proposal preparation.
  • Write and present technical and management reports to FAA management, industry stakeholders, and external parties.
  • Recommend improvements to work processes and provide guidance to junior staff in solving technical issues.
  • Identify potential issues and inform management of problems requiring attention.

Logistics and Configuration Management Support:

  • Support the FAA logistics system by managing part creation, research, and loading of components into the LCSS database.
  • Ensure accurate configuration management (CM) and configuration status accounting (CSA) for assigned systems.
  • Collaborate with Equipment Specialists and Item Managers to ensure the integrity and completeness of system configurations.
  • Support the creation of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) to maintain system baselines.
  • Identify and document system issues through Issue Requests (IRs) and support the resolution process.
  • Participate in Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) processes, performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions for high-failure components.
  • Engage in obsolescence reviews, providing recommendations for component replacements or alternatives.
  • Collaborate with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and other engineering resources to ensure system requirements are met.
  • Write Process Instructions, Work Instructions, and Maintenance Manuals to support system operation and maintenance.

Testing, Troubleshooting, and Engineering Support:

  • Maintain and update test and training environments for assigned systems.
  • Participate in troubleshooting efforts for system anomalies and outages.
  • Perform trend analysis, engineering testing, and root cause analysis. Write technical reports and recommend design improvements for FAA and Inter-Agency projects.
  • Prepare periodic reports for management and stakeholders.

Project Engineering and Cross-functional Support:

  • Apply engineering principles to complex projects, ensuring customer requirements are met.
  • Work with program management and second-level engineering teams to review and refine project and installation packages.
  • Provide engineering support for large, multidisciplinary projects, monitoring resources to ensure timely and efficient completion.
  • Collaborate closely with other product divisions, group managers, and teams to align engineering goals with business objectives.

Travel and Certification:

  • Up to 50% travel required to support program needs, including troubleshooting and implementation of NAS systems.
  • Climbing certification (up to 50 feet) required for fieldwork.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 0-1 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Ability to pass a full background investigation to meet the public trust clearance requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration skills.

This position requires access to classified materials related to Customs & Border Protection (CBP) law enforcement systems. A successful public trust clearance (e.g., background investigation) will be required for this role.

Pay Range:Pay Range $53,950.00 - $97,525.00
