Staff Research Associate II - 133201

Current UC San Diego Health Neurosciences employees who apply by 11/20/2024 will have priority consideration for this position. Under direct supervision, incumbent works on small projects or segments of projects with limited scope and complexity. Provide unique skills in molecular cloning, virus production, and recombinant protein production including of nanobodies and essential enzymes. Learn new skills related to protein fractionation, flow cytometry, and working with proteomics collaborators for sample submission. Assist in routine cell culture and genotyping efforts. Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, including installation and maintenance and coordinate maintenance contracts.

• Experience with molecular cloning.

• Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties.

• Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline.

• Basic consultation and communication skills.

• Knowledge and experience in performing genotyping.

• Knowledge and experience in producing recombinant proteins (i.e. Taq and nanobodies).

• Knowledge and ability to make viruses (e.g. AAV) and perform basic cell culture and molecular biology techniques.

• Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
