The salary range for this position is $66,737-$71,769. Application Window Open date: November 8, 2024 Next review date: Sunday, Dec 8, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Saturday, Nov 8, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Irvine -School of Medicine and Dr. Charles Limoli, Professor and Vice Chair of the Radiation Oncology Department invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar (Employee, Fellow, Paid Direct, Interim). The Postdoctoral Scholar's first appointment shall be for a minimum of one-year term, provided that there is work, programmatic need, and appropriate funding. This position will be available for 2-3 years funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH), if incumbent is reappointed. The scholar will be responsible for investigating the efficacy of radiation- and/or chemotherapy-induced tumor cell kill and normal tissue sparing in the CNS and other peripheral organ sites. Our laboratory employs cutting-edge cancer therapy paradigms with a focus on ultra-high dose rate "FLASH" radiotherapy, gene silencing, transgenic, stem cell-based and pharmacological approaches to study neurobiological mechanisms and regenerative strategies to ameliorate a wide range of normal tissue toxicities, neuroinflammation and cognitive impairments. The successful candidate will possess an excellent track record and a high level of motivation to conduct independent experiments and work well with a team. This position will play an integral role in the execution of the overall aims of several funded NIH grants focused on the translational potential of FLASH radiotherapy, stem cell and extracellular vesicles based strategies to enhance the therapeutic index of cancer treatments in the CNS, lung and head and neck. The candidate will also be expected to be familiar with statistics and the analysis and preparation of data sets for presentations in scientific meetings and peer-reviewed publications. This role reports directly to the Vice Chair of Radiation Oncology. This position is dependent on extramural funds and may be subjected to the disposition/availability of such funds. The Department has an active Radiation Biology Division that currently ranks among the top programs in the nation concerning NIH funding. The Department participates in NRG/RTOG and SWOG and encourages investigator-initiated clinical and translational trials. The Division has undergone a transformative change with current and future site expansion in recent years.
