Work Shift

First (Days) (United States of America) Sentara Hospice is currently hiring a full time Chaplain to join their Harrisonburg team.

Shift: Mon - Fri 8 am - 5 pm with occasional weekends/on call rotation

Summary:

Provides spiritual support and bereavement counseling support to the patient's and/ or families of the Hospice Program. Makes home visits, administers sacraments, serves as a resource for information on spiritual and bereavement issues and documents relevant/ appropriate information regarding patients, family psycho-socio-spiritual situation in the patient's record.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 2+ years of experience with pastoral care required.
  • Hospice experience preferred.

Job Summary

Coordinates the provision of spiritual care throughout the hospital for patients, families and staff. Develops, implements and evaluates the spiritual plan of care through a spiritual assessment. Educates staff in the provision of spiritual care. Coordinates and collaborates with multi-disciplinary team members to facilitate comprehensive and integrated holistic care of patients and families (to include clinical ethics). Documents patient care concerns and interventions. Contributes to hospital committees. Offers expertise in cultural/faith diversity, advance care planning, major life transitions, end of life medical decision-making, and grief processes. Works in a multi-staff and culturally diverse setting.

Master of Divinity, or Masters or Doctoral (or equivalent) level degree in theology, or related disciplines from an accredited college, university, or seminary or equivalent course of study particular to the candidate's faith tradition. Successful completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education required
Certification by national healthcare chaplain certifying organization preferably the following:
APC (Association of Professional Chaplains)
CPSP (College of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy),
Neshama AJC (Association of Jewish Chaplains)
NACC (National Association of Catholic Chaplains)
SCA (Spiritual Care Association)
Certification within 3 years of employment. If not a preferred organization, candidate/employee must show that organization is aligned with Common Qualifications and Competencies for Professional Chaplains.
Endorsement and/or letter of support affirming candidates suitability for hospital chaplaincy from appropriate leadership within candidates spiritual tradition is required.
ACP Facilitator Training within one (1) year of employment. Ethics consultation training as determined by the Sentara Center for Healthcare Ethics within two (2) years of employment.
