Position Overview

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Associate Athletics Director for Sport Performance will be responsible for overseeing the complete physical development of all student-athletes at ENMU. This includes the supervision of the strength and conditioning staff, and collaboration with the athletic training staff, head coaches, and other relevant personnel to ensure that the student-athletes sport performance is at its peak. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strength, speed, and conditioning programs for all sports, with a primary oversight of football. This person will monitor the Eastern New Mexico University weight facility and be responsible for upkeep, inventory, and ordering of equipment. He/she will supervise an assistant strength and conditioning coach, graduate assistants, and any work-study students assigned to the unit. The coach will interact and correspond with Head Coaches about the programs designed for their teams as well as the head athletic trainer, athletic training staff and medical team.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge and rules of the NCAA in all aspects as it relates to this position
  • Develop and implement strength, speed, and conditioning programs for all NCAA intercollegiate athletic teams and the institution's rodeo team
  • Hold regular meetings with the Athletic Training Staff and other medical related personnel to ensure that the overall development of student-athletes is balanced and effective
  • Monitor the Eastern New Mexico University weight training facility
  • Supervise department coaches, graduate assistants and work-study students that assist with the strength and conditioning program
  • Interact and correspond with Head Coaches about the strength and conditioning program for their teams
  • Conduct fall and spring testing of all athletes
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of athletes in database
  • Design and implement winter break and summer workout plans and schedules for all sports
  • Coordinate summer workouts for athletes remaining on campus at ENMU
  • Supervise and monitor student-athletes while using facility
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment
  • Keep a monthly inventory of equipment in weight room
  • Coordinate Weight Training Facility schedules
  • Coordinate maintenance/replacement schedule of equipment with Director of Athletics and assist in obtaining information about new equipment needs and purchases
  • Communicate with athletic training staff regarding student-athlete limitations and adjust workouts accordingly
  • Advise coaches on pre-game, pre-practice protocols as well as post-activity needs
  • Remain up-to-date on significant injuries sustained by student-athletes, as well as an analysis for future direction on training of injured student-athletes
  • Collaborate to ensure that all the relevant parties (athletic training, medical staff, head coaches, and student-athletes) are all working on a singular plan for student-athlete optimal development
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a Sports or Health related field
  • 2 years of work experience in strength and conditioning area
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Must be certified through a nationally recognized strength and conditioning program
  • Master's degree in a Sports or Health Related field preferred
  • A valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment is also required, as well as the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather and road conditions.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed on a 12-month contract
  • Work is performed during normal business hours but will include evening and weekend hours and requires occasional travel
  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
