Farnsworth Group is seeking a full time Water Resources Engineer within our Civil Engineering department, in our Lisle, Tinley Park, or Chicago, IL offices. We are searching for a candidate with a solid technical background, a strong sense of project ownership/responsibility, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment. Work will include water resource engineering projects for municipalities, counties, and sewer districts.
Job Activities:


  • Manage several projects simultaneously within the water resources and civil disciplines from inception to completion.
  • Design a variety of water resources engineering projects, including culvert design, IDOT highway storm sewer systems, detention projects, green infrastructure facilities, and natural channel design.
  • Perform hydrology and hydraulic modeling and analysis
  • Conduct floodplain and drainage studies
  • Prepare reports on engineering analyses and model results
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to determine stormwater requirements and facilitate permit approvals
  • Pursue new opportunities through business development efforts
  • Lead and mentor junior staff on engineering projects.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with clients.


Specific Requirements include:


  • BS in Civil, Agricultural, or Environmental Engineering or a closely related field
  • 10+ plus years of engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Experience with H&H modeling software required. Software may include EPA-SWMM, PC-SWMM, HEC-RAS 2D, HEC-HMS, and Hydraflow Hydrographs.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS preferred
  • Experience with IDOT regulations preferred
  • Experience designing and managing projects in the water resources engineering field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with clients
  • Strong team player that can manage and contribute to several projects simultaneously
  • Willingness to participate in business development activities
  • Passion for water resources and stormwater management
