Responsibilities
Help us bring the highest quality of healthcare to every patient by:
- Scheduling appointments, welcoming, and preparing patients for the physician.
- Interviewing them to obtain medical information and measuring their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Recording patients' medical history, vital statistics, or test results in medical records while maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by physician.
- Collecting and preparing blood, tissues, or other laboratory specimens for testing.
- Explaining treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physician instructions to patients.
- Assisting physicians; handing instruments/materials and performing tasks such as giving injections or removing sutures.
- Preparing treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Cleaning and sterilizing instruments and disposing of contaminated supplies.
- Providing emotional and physical comfort and safety to patients.
We also expect you to:
- Respect your supervisor's work schedule to ensure continuity of care.
- React to a "code" or patient crisis following policy and procedure.
- Observe infection control principles and techniques.
- Keep supplies, equipment, and working areas in good condition.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two (2) year college or technical school. Certification from a Medical Assistant program.
- Six (6) months related experience and/or training.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group settings.
- Ability to work with a team of inmates and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
Physical Requirements
- Frequently: Lift, carry up, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.; walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, and reach above shoulder level.
- Occasionally: Lift, carry up, push, or pull up to 60 lbs.; climb, and work with machinery.
