Job Duties
East Carolina University College of Nursing is currently seeking applications for a full-time, fixed-term, 12-month, faculty position in the Department of Advanced Nursing Practice and Education teaching in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Concentration. Applicants should have a strong foundation in the mental health field and support the values and mission of the ECU College of Nursing.
Courses are taught in an online, distance education delivery format; however, this position will require on-campus attendance for meetings and committee work one to two days per week, and PMHNP intensive experiences one week each semester.
The PMHNP Concentration has two entry levels, MSN and Post Master's Certificate. Our graduates offer caring and competent mental health services across North Carolina and nationally.
Responsibilities include teaching, developing, and evaluating relevant courses within the PMHNP concentration, and serve as clinical faculty for student practicum supervision. Active participation with the PMHNP admission committee for student selection process annually is required. Responsibilities may also include: teaching courses in the Master's core, academic advising, coordination and collaboration with clinical practicum preceptors, participation as a full-time faculty member including attendance at faculty meetings, and participation in committees/task forces.
This position will be recruited as a 12-month, fixed-term full-time permanent faculty appointment. Appointments are commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Masters degree in Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.
  • Candidates should have at least two years of mental health experience as a PMHNP. National certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • A valid non-restricted NC nursing license is required upon employment.

  • DNP or PhD (or equivalent) degree completion is required within 3 years of employment.
  • All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

  • Mental Health National certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • A valid non-restricted NC nursing license is required upon employment.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Knowledge of and advocacy for mental health care and the advancement of PMHNP scope of practice is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the clinical management of patients with alterations in mental health and have teaching experience at a college level.
  • Online teaching experience is preferred.

  • DNP or PhD (or equivalent) preferred.
