Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager / Administrative Coordinator, perform duties to support the management of health information and data within the electronic medical record.

Examples of Duties
-
100% Health Information Management Administrative Support 1. As requested, meets with patients or others who have questions regarding the medical records release process. 2. Responsible for scanning and indexing of paper materials in to electronic chart as needed. 3. Orients end-users of scanned documents in retrieval techniques and procedures within the Center for Family Medicine main clinics and its off-site clinics in Jacksonville, Lincoln, Integrated Wellness Clinic and Sangamon County Health Department. 4. Serves as the Family Medicine coordinator for operational and preventative maintenance performed on scanners and printers. This individual is also responsible to clean and maintain the scanner, printer, and fax machines. 5. Operates data entry devices to retrieve information from data base in order to respond complex user inquiries or to compile listings or reports requiring classification of data by entering the POLST, POA, Verbal releases, and deceased patients in multiple system so they are under the correct date in the EMR. 6. Maintains records of accuracy and efficiency of department operations by processing all faxes, and internal and external mail by numbering and dating and is delivered to the correct provider. 7. Recognized as the Family Medicine expert in any lower level data processing activity assigned when utilizing Touch- Works or Centricity Business on a daily basis and is familiar with all systems. 8. Compiles information from the EMR, as requested, regarding completeness, accuracy and conformance to clinic requirements. 9. Serves as liaison with other record rooms and health care organizations in coordinating medical record information as follows: * SIU HC Central Records room for coordinating patient information. * MMC, SC and HSHS Central Records room for coordinating inpatient information. * SIU Billing Office for release of information for professional billing issues. * SIU Legal Counsel to identify and notify of potential risks on the professional physician side. 10. Covers phones, assist in finding paperwork, search for records, request records for patients and providers. Assist patients with releases explaining how to complete the forms. 11. Serves as liaison with Health Port, the company that assists the Center with the copying of medical information for release to other health care organizations or patients. 12. Serves as liaison with the Nurse Triage Unit to coordinate incoming prescriptions and routing them to the Triage Nurses in the clinics. 13. Oversees the coordination of all incoming mail for the Center and ensures appropriate distribution, maintain confidentiality as warranted. 14. Covers other duties as needed.

Qualifications

- Any one or combination totaling eighteen months (18 months) from the categories below:
- coursework in a health-related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- 60 semester hours or an Associate's degree equals eighteen months (18 months)
- work experience in the preparation and/or maintenance of medical records in a health care facility or program.
