Position Purpose
Assists faculty and onsite support staff in running foreign study programs. Provides administrative, logistical, and classroom support.
Required Qualifications

  • Works well with others.
  • Maintains a mature approach to leadership in off campus programming.
  • Has some related experience to Classics topics.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previously participated on a Dartmouth Classics FSP, or another FSP in Greece or Europe.

Key Accountabilities


Key Accountabilities
Supervise Program Participants (45%)

  • Be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to assist and support program participants.
  • Be available to respond to crisis situations that arise and support program participants who are dealing with personal crises.
  • As needed, inform students on an ongoing basis about health, security and safety-related precautions and processes.
  • Inform the faculty program director and onsite support staff about any concerns, misbehavior, or other issues that pose a significant risk to the health or safety of one or more of the program participants, or any behavior that jeopardizes the good standing of the program.


Assist the Faculty Director with Cultural and Educational Programs and Activities for Program Participants; advise students about other travel and cultural experiences. (5%)
  • As requested, assist program participants on trips, activities, lectures, and other experiences which provide cultural and educational opportunities.
Assist the Faculty Director and Onsite Support Staff with Program Administrative and Logistical Support Needs (35%)

  • As needed, help to assemble orientation materials, assist in conducting orientation meetings and activities (especially trips outside of Athens) with the faculty director and onsite support staff.
  • Assist with materials and assignments related to coursework for the program, including help with organizing the Canvas site and creating daily site plans and handouts, and reading student essays to support students in producing higher quality work.
  • Help maintain the Classics website, including soliciting and editing student generated text for daily reports.
  • Be available to assist the faculty program director and onsite support staff with contingencies and other reasonable assignments, as needed.

Facilitate Learning, Development, and Community Among Program Participants (15%)

  • Develop and maintain an appropriate relationship with each program participant.
  • Support individual participants in meeting their personal, social, and academic goals.
  • Facilitate the development of positive relationships among participants.
  • Foster a sense of inclusion and unity among participants and an atmosphere of safety and respect.
  • Develop activities that support individual students and foster the goals of inclusion, respect, and positive community relationships.
