Job Summary

Applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program faculty developers and faculty learners in the health professions. Coordinates program operations, which include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation.

The Faculty Development (FD) Coordinator works under the general direction of the administrative director and closely with the faculty development manager and faculty director of Faculty Development programs in the Center for Faculty Educators. The coordinator supports the goal of providing faculty development offerings to help those who teach and supervise learners improve their educator skills and promote supportive and inclusive learning environments. Responsibilities include supporting health professions faculty development trainings and resources in compliance with organizational objectives and nationally accepted accreditation standards and requirements. The coordinator supports hundreds of faculty learners through logistical oversight of a variety of educational skills workshops and related activities, as well as nearly one hundred faculty instructors who teach in faculty development programs.

The Coordinator also works closely with colleagues in the CFE's educational researcher program and collaborates with the Center for Faculty Educators (CFE) operations and programs analysts who have important roles in supporting communication of all CFE programs, including faculty development. The Coordinator maintains consistent communication and collaboration with the faculty development manager and faculty director and acts with a high degree of autonomy on logistical management of workshop processes and offerings. The technical and organization demands for the position require skills in several areas critical to maintaining policies and procedures, streamlined program workflow, systems and data management, and effective communication.

The FD Coordinator also administers the Teaching Scholars Program, a year-long program for faculty interested in advancing their skills as educational leaders and scholars through an intensive seminar series, mentored projects, a network of educational colleagues and collaborative learning.

Department Description

The Office of Medical Education (OME) promotes academic excellence across the continuum of medical education through faculty development and educational research; learning technology and instructional support; program and learner evaluation; institutional reporting on education; and accreditation and institutional policy for the 26 academic departments that make up the School of Medicine which includes over 2000 teaching faculty, 715 enrolled medical students, 1800 residents and fellows and over 30,000 continuing education activities each year. The Office of Medical Education sets all strategic directives for medical education across the enterprise.

The Center for Faculty Educators (CFE) is a unit within OME comprised of approximately 9 staff who provide administrative services to the Academy of Medical Educators (AME), faculty development, education research and support for volunteer clinical professor educators. The CFE staff supports the faculty of AME and CFE as they focus efforts on developing and mentoring educators, providing leadership and service, and collaborating in educational research. CFE staff play a central role in developing the next generation of educational leaders by managing and implementing programs and resources by supporting faculty in their educational endeavors and in finding opportunities for teaching, skills development, mentorship, scholarly collaboration, and recognition of achievement in their roles as teachers and educational researchers.
The CFE advances this work with a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism, anti-oppression in health professions education. The Faculty Development Coordinator works primarily with the Faculty Development Manager, the Faculty Development faculty Director and the CFE Administrative Director.

The CFE Faculty Development Program provides faculty development offerings to help those who teach and supervise learners improve their educator skills and promote supportive and inclusive learning environments. This is accomplished through activities ranging from multi-day certificate workshops, comprehensive online core teaching skills workshops, intensive educator clinics to 3-minute online modules.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 1+ years of directly relevant experience.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of health professions education industry.
  • Basic knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Acquiring skills in developing and implementing processes and systems. Familiarity with the administrative and operational implications in a program.
  • Communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Service oriented and responsive to questions and requests. Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within department and with learners.
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to work with extremely complex faculty calendars / schedules requires extremely well organized and detail oriented precision.
  • Investigative, data analysis, and reporting skills. Ability to generate computer reports, checking for errors, correcting and submitting accurate reports. Skills include entering, maintaining, extracting, and analyzing data in electronic systems.
  • High level of proficiency using MS Office: Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and the various components for each project.

Preferred Qualifications


  • 2-3 years of experience in project/program management.
  • Knowledge of educational technology and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and triages related technology issues.
