We are a level IV NICU - the highest level of NICU designation - and our NNP's provide care at both Children's Mercy and 8 other level 2 and 3 NICU's in the metropolitan area.

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) provides expert family-centered and comprehensive health care services to the neonatal patient population (both) in the NICU at Children's Mercy Adele Hall Campus and at partner metropolitan area NICUs. In collaboration with other healthcare providers, the NNP provides initial, ongoing, and comprehensive care.The NNP obtains a complete health history, performs physical examinations, formulates a plan of care, orders and interprets laboratory and imaging studies, and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The NNP prescribes medications, makes appropriate referrals, collaborates with sub-specialties, and participates in patient/family education. NNPs demonstrate clinical leadership and actively participate in performance improvement activities with emphasis in quality improvement and clinical research. The NNP incorporates the best current evidence for delivery of optimal health care that addresses the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of the patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. Provides comprehensive health care services to neonatal patient population; obtains health history; performs physical examination; formulates a plan of care; performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; participates in patient/family education. Demonstrates clinical leadership and actively participates in performance improvement activities with emphasis in clinical research.
